adesso launches its new iGaming platform LotteryForce
Reading Time: 3 minutes

With LotteryForce, the IT service provider adesso is releasing the latest generation of iGaming platform on the market. LotteryForce provides lottery companies around the world with the opportunity to manage a wide range of games on all channels – from classic lotto to keno, scratch cards or sports betting. Thanks to a modern player account management system, lotteries can always see what players are up to. Technically, LotteryForce can be integrated seamlessly into existing centralised systems using high-performance interfaces. Its cloud-based modular architecture is flexible and can be scaled up easily.

LotteryForce replaces in|FOCUS, adesso’s previous iGaming suite. The new platform places an even greater focus on customers. The LotteryForce Player Account Management (PAM) module records all gaming activities centrally and provides a 360-degree view of all customers. Smart identity management ensures that anonymous players become identifiable participants. This helps lottery operators to address their customers in a more effective way while complying with all data protection regulations and fulfilling their responsibility to protect players. For extra convenience when playing, LotteryForce PAM features an integrated e-wallet that can be used to make cashless deposits and withdrawals quickly and easily.

Addressing customers successfully, managing partners effectively

LotteryForce offers innovative Salesforce-based solutions for targeted marketing and sales activities. This makes it possible to address players personally across all service channels, whether by telephone, e-mail or social media. Itself suggests the optimal time and channel for this based on intelligent data analysis of gaming behaviour, making advertising and campaigns more efficient and successful.

LotteryForce provides functions along the entire process chain for the optimal management of sales partners in the retail sector, from onboarding and contract management, including e-signatures, to hardware history and case management. What is more, because LotteryForce automatically delivers reports and analyses of relevant performance indicators in graph form, lottery companies are provided with transparent information on their entire retail business at all times.

Hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) and cloud capability

By using hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) as the basis for LotteryForce, adesso is taking the iGaming platform to a completely new technological level. Instead of having to run on customers’ own servers, operations can also be carried out via the cloud depending on their individual requirements. As a modular solution, LotteryForce can be scaled up quickly and easily. Integrating it into lottery companies’ existing IT systems is a breeze thanks to high-performance interfaces.

Sachsenlotto, WestLotto and Thüringer Staatslotterie count on LotteryForce

adesso’s team of experts drew on more than 20 years of experience in the lottery industry when designing the new platform. Several international customers have already decided in favour of LotteryForce. In Germany, three state-owned lottery companies – Sachsenlotto, WestLotto and the Thüringer Staatslotterie – have recently completed a successful launch of LotteryForce. “Thüringer Staatslotterie has been relying on the iGaming suite from adesso since 2013. We introduced the new platform, LotteryForce, this year. It is an extremely stable and reliable platform, which is connected at the back end to the central system of IGT. The coordinated and smooth cooperation of the software components have impressed us from day one,” says Jochen Staschewski, CEO Thüringer Staatslotterie, expressing his enthusiasm about the new solution from adesso.

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Striemer, head of lottery business at adesso, is pleased about the successful launch of the iGaming platform: “LotteryForce is a modular product that draws on our long-standing experience in the industry and our comprehensive technological expertise. This iGaming platform provides lottery companies with a tool that meets the highest demands placed on a modern system while also offering benefits, especially for sales and marketing.”

ZEAL starts with 35 percent revenue growth into the year 2024

ZEAL Network SE, the leading German online provider of lottery products, has started the new financial year with a strong growth spurt. In the first quarter of 2024, billings from lotteries climbed by 22% to € 246.3 million. Group revenue increased by 35.0% to € 36.1 million (2023: € 26.7 million). EBITDA at Group level increased slightly by 1% to € 9.4 million due to one-off effects and the almost doubling of marketing expenses compared to the previous year.

“We made a very strong start to 2024 and were able to significantly accelerate our revenue growth, particularly in our core business of lottery brokerage. We are also particularly proud of the fact that we were able to achieve EBITDA slightly above the previous year’s level in the past quarter despite almost doubling our marketing expenses and a negative one-off effect from a major win in our charity lottery Deutsche Traumhauslotterie amounting to € 0.8 million. This shows that our measures to acquire new customers are paying off very quickly and that we are generating income across the entire breadth of our customer base,” says Sebastian Bielski, CFO of ZEAL. “With the announced squeeze-out at LOTTO24, we are also putting ZEAL in the best possible position for the future and are leveraging further efficiency potential.”

Revenue in core business grows by 28 percent

ZEAL’s significant revenue growth in the first quarter is primarily due to the strong performance of the lottery business. Billings increased by 22% to € 246.3 million, while revenue from lotteries rose by as much as 28% to € 32.0 million (2023: € 24.9 million). The growth in billings is primarily due to the 21% increase in the average number of active customers per month (MAU). ZEAL was also able to improve the gross margin in the lottery business to 13.0% (2023: 12.4%) thanks to a change in the product mix and further margin optimizations. Excluding the one-off effect from the distribution of a major prize in the company’s charity lottery Deutsche Traumhauslotterie, the gross margin would have been as high as 13.3%.

Games business with significant revenue growth compared to Q4 2023

The games business, which was launched last year, also developed very positively in the first three months of the year. Compared to the fourth quarter of last year, ZEAL was able to increase revenue from games by around 20% from € 1.8 million to € 2.2 million. At 7.0%, the gross margin was stable compared to the previous quarters.

ZEAL was also able to further expand its games portfolio at the end of the quarter. The subsidiary LOTTO24 AG received permission to offer a further 64 games.

Stable result thanks to efficient expansion of future earnings base

ZEAL invested heavily in future growth in the past quarter, acquiring more than twice as many new customers (320 thousand) as in the same period of the previous year (2023: 143 thousand). The company achieved this customer growth much more efficiently than in the same period of the previous year. At € 33.04, the acquisition costs per registered new customer (cost per lead, CPL) were noticeably lower than in the previous year (2023: € 36.77). Due to the company’s strategic decision to use the exceptionally good jackpot situation in January 2024 for efficient new customer growth, marketing expenses of € 13.4 million were 91% higher than in the same period of the previous year (2023: € 7.0 million). As a result, other operating expenses rose to € 21.0 million (2023: € 12.5 million). As a result of the increased number of new customers and the growth of the games business, the direct costs of business operations also rose to € 4.0 million (2023: € 2.7 million).

At € 9.4 million, EBITDA was slightly higher than in the first quarter of the previous year (2023: € 9.3 million). At € 7.5 million, EBIT was 6% higher than in the same period of the previous year (2023: € 7.1 million) due to lower depreciation and amortization recognized in profit or loss. Net income for the period rose to € 21.1 million (2023: € 4.7 million) due to the first-time recognition of expected tax benefits from the utilization of existing tax loss carryforwards in connection with the LOTTO24 squeeze-out.

Due to the good results of the first quarter of 2024, ZEAL confirms the forecast published on March 20, 2024.

Apparat Gaming and edict egaming announce partnership

Leading German software provider teams up with Hamburg-born aggregator to make full suite of slots available to customers in regulated markets worldwide

With immediate effect, German iGaming-business Apparat Gaming is teaming up with fellow Hamburg-founded company edict egaming. The former, having forged a reputation for providing premium casino content with a German accent, has thus joined forces with one of the country’s top aggregators in edict, one of the Merkur Group’s subsidiaries.

As a result of the deal, Apparat Gaming’s ever-expanding portfolio of 30+ quality slots, including recent releases like the high-octane Autobahn Alarm and the hotly-anticipated Fishin’ the Biggest, will be joining edict’s already widespread line-up of over 200 titles – making them now available to all operators who choose edict for their game aggregation needs.

This collaboration will give customers access to an even more diverse selection of games, all of which are fully compliant with the latest German regulation and certified for release in multiple markets.

Founded in 1998, edict was one of the industry’s pioneering online casino service providers before it was acquired by the Merkur Group a decade later. In 2021, the company added an aggregator solution to its offering, and it has been steadily developing this product ever since to a point where it now supplies content to over 150 operators and starts 8.5+ billion games per year.

Specialising in engaging titles that are supplied by some of Germany’s most popular studios, Apparat Gaming’s releases will certainly look right at home among the aggregator’s prestigious game portfolio – and both parties are already looking forward to a highly successful collaboration.

Martin Frindt, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer at Apparat Gaming, said: “Given Apparat Gaming’s German roots, we’re delighted to be teaming up with a Hamburg-born business-like edict. Adding our titles to their line-up will give operators access to our over 30 top slots that all come with our signature German accent, and we can’t wait to hear how they’re received by customers.”

Dominic-Daniel Lienard CEO at edict, said: “Since launching our aggregator solution, edict has compiled a stellar portfolio of releases from some of the top developers in Germany and beyond – and adding Apparat Gaming titles will strengthen this roster further. With great graphics, unique themes, and innovative bonus features, we’re sure their slots will be a huge hit with our operators.”
